Girl, you better utilize your PTO! Now, I know the thought of vacations helping your career sounds crazy on so many levels but I promise it’s 100% true. Leaving work for a week or two can help advance your career, give me a chance to explain why!
Most people have anxiety just thinking about leaving work for a few weeks. They think about the amount of work they’ll have to do once they return, how insane their inbox is going to be, and how long they’ll have to play catch up. The purpose of a vacation is to relax and enjoy your time in a new environment BUT it can also be used as a time to think about your career and personal goals. Check out my three reasons why a vacation can totally benefit your career.
Inspiration is all around you!
Whenever I have the opportunity to travel to a new city, country, or state I get inspired and excited by my surroundings which causes me to try new things. Being consumed with your day to day hustle and bustle can cause us to take inspiration for granted. During your workday, you focus on crossing things off of your to-do list, instead of taking the time to be creative. This summer I went to Jamaica and while I was there I rarely used my phone other than for pictures. I made sure to turn off my email notifications and I NEVER touched the icon! While I was basking in the sun sipping martinis I came up with a bunch of ideas – one, in particular, was starting Blissfully Woke!
While you’re enjoying your vacation maybe you too can come up with an idea to work through your problems or figure out a new strategy for getting through your workday efficiently. You should write it down and tackle it once you get home. Hey, you never, know you just might finally get the courage to start that side hustle you’ve been thinking about!
It’s good for your health – Period.
Whether we love our jobs or not, we all need a little time to relax and take a break from our reality. Schedule excursions, explore hike, ride a bike etc. Do something out of the ordinary – enjoy yourself!
You actually have time to remember your career goals
Do you realize that sometimes you get so caught up with work that you forget what your end goal is? This has definitely happened to me before – it feels like you’re literally doing the same thing day in and day out. After a while, you start to ask yourself – “What am I doing here?”. Having the opportunity to take a break from work can help you clarify what you’re looking for in your career. The action of taking time for yourself can help you remember what you’re truly passionate about. Perhaps it’s time for a new job, or it’s time to Boss up and live your dream – whatever that may be!
