It isn’t uncommon for work to leave you a little stressed from time to time, but if you’re a hot mess from nine to five, it’s time for you to have a serious WOOSAH moment. Girl, you’ve got to do better. Maybe you’ve tried to relax but you honestly don’t know what to do. Or, you’ve attempted to WOOSAH but end up looking like a crazed lunatic bug-eyed and all. No worries, I’m here to help, so tuck in and pay attention mama, I’ve got your back.
It’s Breakfast Time
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I don’t know how true that is but I will say that eating in the morning definitely helps me function before lunch. As you eat your breakfast take the time to savor every bite. Why, because it’s hella good AND it will help to rev up your mood and energy for the long tasks ahead.
Tackle The Nitty Gritty First
Try your hardest to complete the complicated tasks early in the day so they’re not hovering over you like a pesky little mosquito. Look at it this way, you get the annoying stuff out of the way first, so you can semi enjoy/relax in the afternoon.
Play Your Favorite Play List
Girl, a good playlist can instantly boost your mood. If you’re feeling angry or annoyed aim for softer calmer sounds. If you’re into R&B I would suggest – Jhene Aiko, (btw her new ablum dropped yesterday!) Bryson Tiller, or 6LACK. If you’re feeling tired then it’s time to turn up! I would suggest – Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Usher, or Rihanna! You need uptempo music to help you wake up and re-energize your mind/spirit.
Spill Some Tea
Carve out some socializing time! It’s literally the easiest way to distract yourself from the day to day anxieties. Don’t focus on work-related convos, stick to fun and stress-free topics.
Five Minute Wanderlust
Look away from your laptop/CPU screen and let your mind wander. When I start to get a little antsy or overwhelmed I turn away from my desktop and head right to Instagram. This slight lighthearted distraction helps to improve my attitude and get me ready to actually tackle whatever is annoying me.
Say it With Your Chest
If you’re having a hard day and for some reason, you can’t stop over overanalyzing your problems, refocus and keep it pushing. You can vent to a friend or be super smart and stalk your mom via email. Honestly, who else does a better job of calming you down? Humm?
It is extremely important that your workspace is clean, clear and organized. To me, your desk is a reflection of who you are, it’s decorated to suit your taste. Walk it Off
Aye, a little sunshine never hurt anyone! Sometimes basking in the sunlight and taking a quick break is all you need to reassert yourself. If there is a park near your office take a quick stroll! If you work in an educational setting, walk around the hallways and talk to the kids. I try to escape my office as much as I can to catch the kids as they’re walking to class. Believe it or not, the crazy, delusional teenagers always seem to ease the stress. Does that make me crazy…ehh probably.
Breath, Stretch, Shake, Let it Go
Take a second to focus on absolutely nothing but YOURSELF. Calm your mind and just breathe. If you’re into mantras then repeat them, while whispering small words of encouragement to yourself. “I am amazing, I am more than capable, I’ve got this!” Five to ten minutes later you’ll feel like a totally new woman ready to tackle whatever obstacle that comes your way.
Uhh, I’m on Lunch
Honor your lunch break – slowly back away from your computer! Declutter your mind, watch your favorite show, listen to music, or simply eat in silence, whatever works for you! Do not touch anything work-related, this is your time to do whatever you want. Don’t squander it!
