I had the privilege of getting nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award by the incredible @stilljamieblog . We met via Instagram and after speaking to her I knew she was going to be the homie. Hey, Jamie Girl! Make sure to check out her blog, amazing content coming from a sweetheart!
Woohoo! So, what is this exactly? This award is from bloggers given to other bloggers as a token of appreciation for the hard work and dedication we put into every post, as well as the effort to keep the blog fresh and up to date. Uhh… Badasses unite. Yeah!
How was Blissfully Woke born?
When I was a teenager I thought the coolest thing a person could do was write. I mean like really write, specifically fictional writers. As a lifetime Harry Potter fan I thought it was amazing that J.K Rowling was able to sit at home and create amazing storylines. At age 19 I finally convinced myself that I could do the same. I wrote my first short story in my creative writing class at Morgan State University. It was amazing! Sort of like a weird adrenaline rush. I wanted to feel that rush all of the time. When I discovered that blogging was a thing I immediately went for it. The first blog I created was called Sassy’ N’ New York. Unfortunately, I didn’t do any research and went about things the wrong way. I thought my blog was going to be poppin from day one. When things didn’t go as planned I got discouraged and I gave up. Last month, I bossed up and decided to try again. I did my research, bought a domain name, joined a bunch of blogging threads on Facebook, got advice from hella successful bloggers and here I am, nominated for an award, and speaking to people from all over the world. How amazing is that? Of course, there’s always room for growth. I’m learning more and more each day via Pinterest, and other fabulous bloggers and for that, I’m thankful.
Patience is a virtue – Once your blog is complete and you’ve shared a few posts you might expect instant popularity because your posts are amazing and obviously you know what you’re talking about. Let’s be real… you’re amazing blog is brand spanking new! You’ve got to work on figuring out who your target audience is, how to promote yourself and how to work Pinterest! There are plenty bloggers in your niche – what makes you special? Take your time figuring out all of that. Work out the kinks and get ready for the ride.
Join Tribes on Pinterest, and Blogger Threads on Facebook – Listen, I love me a Facebook Thread! Whoever came up with that concept deserves a medal…for real! Threads give bloggers the opportunity to share their latest posts, Instagram handles, and websites with one another. They’re relatively simple, if you follow the rules you’ll be fine, plus, they help drive traffic to your blog which is the end goal. Pinterest is bomb as well. Be sure to create vertical appealing pins to share with your followers. By joining Tribes you’re exposing your material to millions of people. I recommend you download an app called Tailwind. It allows you to schedule posts via Pinterest and Instagram to constantly promote your material. Your Pinterest pins will pin automatically, but the Instagram posts will have to be posted manually. It’s all good though, Tailwind will send you a notification reminding you to share your post. Thirty seconds later, you’ll be good to go.
The best part about this award is that I have the pleasure of nominating 15 other badass blogs that qualify for the award. I’ve selected blogs from different niches, categories, and countries! We’re all newcomers and well deserving of this beautiful award. Teamwork makes the dream work, time to show some love!
